Deliverance Part 3
       In And Out.

Nya looked around the small building that was to be her “quarters”. It was a low round building with a purple hue. She shared her room with the two friends she had made, Ryo, and Shano. They had stuck by her side the first, second, and third nights out in the cold dessert. She tossed the small bag with her few things onto the bed and turned to her partners.
  “So. We are agreed then?” She asked them.
  “Yes” They said at the same time. Nya held out her hand in a fist. Her two friends tapped hers. Suddenly the Major burst into the small room.
  “Out.” He said. “We are preparing for our first training mission. So move!”
  “Acknowledged Major!” They said in unison. They quickly marched out into the bright, burning sunlight of the base perimeter. All of the young trainees were assembled outside. As they met up in their positions among the rest, the Major began to speak.
  “So far all of you have only gone through normal beginning training. But today you will have your first real mission training. You will be split into squads by your quarters. Teams of twelve, and each team of twelve will be broken into squads of three. So to begin the teams.” He paused for a moment. “Quarter ones team is named Purity. Quarter twos will be Tranquility. Quarter three will be Revelation, and finally quarter four.” Nya tensed thinking about what their team might be. “Deliverance. Now each team split into squads of three.” Nya, Shano, and Ryo got together. “Now. Each team of twelve follow the Minors assigned to you. He will take you to the base you will be operating out of for the next seven cycles.” The teams began boarding Phantoms in the compound. It took off and began heading towards the rainforest on the other side of the mountain range. As the trip began, the Minor in charge started to speak.
  “The rules are simple.” He said. “You are to find a small purple sphere, like the one I am holding.” He held up a small round, purple object. “And steal it from your enemies base. To win you must get at least two of them. Each base has an armory from which you can find weapons that stun your enemy. You are allowed to take prisoners as your base has a holding cell. You have seven cycles to complete your mission.” As the Phantom set down in front of a low stone structure out in the rain forest. It was a compound with a pair of connected stone buildings and a surrounding ten foot wall. The trainees left the dropship and entered the buildings. In the first was a room with a table for planning. Another room had the armory, with yet another room with twelve beds. In the second building were six rooms which met in a central room. Each rooms door was blocked by an energy shield, which were controlled by a console in the center of the central room. Nya noticed that in front of each bed was a packing crate. She walked over to one of the beds in the corner and sat down.
  “That is all. Me and the rest of the minors will be moving throughout the forest monitoring the activity.” He left the base and disappeared into the deep foliage. Nya took her carrying bag off and sat down on the bed, glad she had taken it with her.
  “So, Eado.” Said Shano, sitting on the bed next to hers. “I suppose we’ll need to establish a leader.” Suddenly the room burst into loud yelling and calling as everyone began to say they should be the leader.
   “Quiet now!” Nya yelled. Suddenly the room was quiet. “I say,” She said “We vote.”
  “Yes lets vote” Said Shano. Everyone in the room voted for themselves. Except Ryo and Shano, who voted for Nya.
  “Why me?” She asked after becoming the de-facto leader.
  “Because you seem like the smart sort of leader.” Said Shano.
  “And your sensible to.” Said Ryo.
  “Thank you.” She said. “Well first we need to establish patrols and scouts. Secondly we need to open up the armory and arm all of us. So, my squad is squad one, Anso your squad is squad two.” She said indicating another darker skinned Sangheili. “You’ll be patrol one. Jidar, your squad is squad three and patrol two. Hido, your squad four and your squad is our scouts.”
  “Eado?” Asked Jidar.
  “Yes?” She said.
  “What is your squads job?”
  “Well, we’re the strike force once we’ve located the opposite base. Also when the scouts aren’t out and when one of the patrols is back they are to guard the base. Understand?”
  “Understood.” They said. So first things first they raided the armory, getting out all of the weapons they could.
  “The scouts will be armed with plasma pistols, and beam rifles. Patrols will have plasma rifles. Anyone here on guard will have beam rifles and needlers.” The needlers had been revamped so the needles were flat and when they hit you they just burst sending out an electrical pulse that stunned you. As the young soldiers checked over their weapons, Nya opened the crate at the end of her bed. Inside was a set of armor and a data pad.
  “Guys I just found something. Inside each crate is a set of armor.” The Sangheil quickly moved to investigate this new discovery. Nya pulled out her set and pulled on the body suit and the plates themselves. She flipped on the data pad and on it were instructions. It said that on the wrist pad of the armor was a control panel. It was on this that you turned on your ‘rank’. Once the rank of major was taken all other sets were immediately turned to minor. Nya pressed several buttons and her suits color changed from dull gray to red. She picked up one of the plasma rifles and checked its charge. It was full.
  “All right. Patrol one you should get out there and start your jobs. Patrol two your on watch, scouts you get first rest. When patrol one gets back there on rest, scouts your on watch and patrol two your on watch.” All around her, the young troops were pulling on their armor. “Shano, Ryo, your with me. Lets move. Since we’re the reserve squad we’ll take any job not in use. Lets go do a little scouting.” The three friends headed out of base and into the surrounding jungle. She pulled out a small recording device she had found in the crate with the armor. She would use it to record anything of importance on the enemies base. The trudged through the thick under brush and suddenly the ground in front of Nya gave away and she began sliding down a steep cliff. They had walked right off the edge when they came out of the bush!
  “By the sacred rings!” Yelled Ryo as they hit the bog at the bottom of the hill. The muddy water was everywhere, coating the young Sangheili. Nya spit out the a lump of mud and said
  “That was quite a fall. Are you two all right?”
  “I am fine” Said Shano. “Just dirty, I’m use to it.”
  “Gods! That was amazing. Can we do it again?” Said Ryo
  “No” Nya replied. They got out of the bog and moved towards the deeper brush, when suddenly they heard something. It was the movement of another team through the jungle.
  “Down!” Ryo hissed. They all dropped down and lay there hoping the mud concealed them. Then out of the dense jungle came three blue armored trainees. They looked around and the largest said,
  “I heard it from over here.”
  “You must be hearing things.” Said another.
  “I am sure I heard something!” Said the larger on again who was now about three feet away from Shano. “Well whatever it was, its not here any more.” They turned and trudged away into the mist. Once they were sure they were safe, the trio stood and began to move quietly forward again. As they moved they saw quick flashes of enemy patrols through the trees. Ryo turned back to look at the others and said,
  “I here lots of movement up ahead. I’ll move forward and check it out.” He quickly sprinted off into the trees. He moved as fast as he could without making noise, and came to a spot where the trees started to thin out into a clearing. He moved onto a low rise near the edge and laid down. Turning on his HUD, he used its zoom to look at the base spread out before him. All around, he saw movement of the trainees setting up their camp.
  “By the gods, we have found their base!” He flipped on his communication device. “Major.” He said to Nya “We have found their base. I’m marking their position on the heads up display so we may find it later.”
  “Understood return to our position.. What is that! Ryo get back here now, we are taking fire from a patrol. Wait, no! they have got most of their forces here, we are falling ba…” The device fell silent. Ryo ran as fast as he could back to the old position, but found only trampled grass and scorch marks.
  “Prophets be damned.” He said. “I’ve got to return to the base.” He charged back towards their base camp.

  Nya open her eyes and sat up quickly, but realized that this was a mistake.
  “Ooww.” She said, putting her hand up to her head. “ It feels like I had a Lekgolo dropped on me.” She turned her head and saw Shano laying next to her. She surveyed their surroundings and discovered they were in one of the enemy teams confinement chambers. “Shano!” She said urgently. “Awaken!”
  “Oohh. By the gods, what happened?” He asked.
  “We have been taken prisoner!” She said. “We need to get out.”
  “Wait a minute, where is Ryo?” Shano inquired. “If they did not capture him then we still have a chance!”
  “All we can do is hope.” Nya said.

“The Major and one of the patrol have been taken prisoner. I am not going to hide the truth from you. They are armed and prepared for us to free our lost comrades. Arm up and prepare for battle. Think of it like they are filthy humans.” Ryo paused from his speech he was making to the others. They were preparing to rescue Nya and Shano.
  “But what about the sphere? If we leave it here any one of our foes can come in and steal it.”
  “I have already thought of that possibility. And I have decided that one of us must carry it with them to ensure it does not fall into enemy hands. Anso you will have the responsibly of guarding the orb so none of the enemy may get their dirty Kig-yar hands on it!” All around him they said
  “here here!”
  “Alright. Deliverance lets go get us our leader back!”
